The museum was founded in 1880. It houses a rich collection of music manuscripts (over 60 from the 15th to 19th centuries), cataloged by Jaromír Černý. The literary archives contain more than 200 manuscripts on various subjects, with a significant portion consisting of prayer books. The library includes works on religion, law, history, medicine, and more. Among the manuscripts are several by František de Paula Svenda from the early 19th century related to the town's history, as well as more recent manuscripts from personal estates.
